The Floor Trader opened a new Suffolk store last month at 1208 N. Main St.
The 5,000-square-foot store is the first in Suffolk for the company, but owner William Smith said it had been looking to expand into the city for some time.
They initially looked at another location but found the North Main Street location when the other one fell through.
“We’re looking forward to being in Suffolk,” Smith said. “We just do a lot of things (other stores) don’t do.”
Smith said while home supply stores might carry the basics, The Floor Trader has a number of options including bamboo and hardwood to go along with the more traditional carpet, vinyl and laminate options.
“We’re really excited to be here,” owner and manager Ben Reynolds said. “We feel like we can bring a lot of choices and professionalism to the floor market in Suffolk, with great selection and unbeatable prices.”
The store also carries tile and area rugs.
For its first week in town, shoppers enjoyed discounts and special deals, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale were donated to My Help My Hope, a local charity that supports those affected by domestic violence.
“We welcome The Floor Trader to the Suffolk Village Shopping Center,” Suffolk Mayor Linda T. Johnson said in a press release. “More importantly, we welcome them to our Suffolk community and are so pleased they have decided to join and grow with us.”
Call the store at 539-0012 for more information.
